Artist's Description

2010
framed oil on linen.
Notes: This paintings is long long, using “panoramic” proportions and is of a series of three 20 x 60 inch paintings in which I explored this type of composition.
I could not stand and reach all parts of a canvas this size with my brush, and I had to move side to side, only being able to get a glimpse of the whole through peripheral vision. Consequently, I spent much more time than usual backing up to see the “whole picture” and discovered that a sense of movement and a narrative element seemed to assert themselves into the feeling of the work.
This particular painting is inspired by living near the Connecticut River and also by finding my way as an artist. Sometimes you use the “bridges”. Sometimes you just have to find another way.
